Is It Gonna Get Any Weirder with the new “–weird” MJ parameter?

Yeah the oddity is a commodity
Everything is strange
We should flip the page
Is it gonna get any weirder? Weirder, weirder, weirder, is it gonna get any weirder? Weirder, weirder, weirder, is it gonna get any weirder?*

Is It Gonna Get Any Weirder (Reddit Recap) (feat. Molly Moore)

It is hard nowadays not to wake up and be welcomed by either an update or a new release of a new generative AI function. While Midjourney is undergoing very rapid updates, over the weekend they have updated the v5.2 with a few new parameters, one of which is called „weird”. How not to love those guys?! “–weird” adds a unique and edgy aesthetic to images. The strength of course varies based on the prompt. It enhances image weirdness/ edginess with adjustable strength from /–weird 0/ to /–weird 1000/ (or even 3000 if you like). All you have to do is add it at the end of the prompt. Let’s see how weird some of the prompt engineers and artist got over the last few days!

Henry Zang, one of very interesting Medium users to follow, has published an illustrative example of how the weirdo parameter changes the outcome. The original prompt was as follows:

“Create a portrait of a woman, strength and resilience, gaze, posture, Her attire, pop culture and Art Nouveau, surreal, symbolizing, palette, earthy –v 5.2 –s 1000 –ar 2:3”

It looks like it is going to be so much fun! The parameter though does not have to be used just for fun, as long as you use it, let’s say consciously. As some users have noted it is different from what we already know as the “–chaos” parameter, this one gives you varieties, rather than random results.

Alie Jules (@saana_ai) has proven the above quite well with her excellent prompts:

PROMPT #1

“beautiful woman future funk psychedelic, 8k –ar 16:9”

and the amazing thread she went on with, let’s all learn.

PROMPT #2

“minimalism, humanoid, portrait, abstract, bokeh effect, HDR –ar 16:9”

Amazing work! If you are interested in more of Alie’s valuable insights please follow her on Twitter, and check out some threads on the “–weird” command here.

Julie W. Design (@juliewdesign_), the incredible artist creating visual narratives with traditional and generative-AI tools, on the other hand, has taken a bit different approach to the new feature.

“midjourney added “–weird” as a new experimental command… and you just know: that’s my jam
here’s the first trials for –weird 250, 500, 750, 1000
1000 is, of course, my favorite one here! might name my first AI movie ‘WEIRD’ as an hommage”

“now, it actually goes up to –weird 3000, and David says: idk if you need it that weird. to that I say: yes, yes I need it that ‘weird’
here’s –weird 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000
all solid gold!
–weird 3000

Incredible! The above arts could easily be mistaken for some still shots taken out of one of Fincher’s production! Julie does not stop at using MJ, she likes using different tools for her artworks and thus we are deep in love with her aesthetics.

We can easily say that the new parameter is one of our favorites so far. From what we know, we are not the only ones who think so. How about you?
